Kakira Doubles sugar production
Tuesday, December 9, 2008, The New Vision by Barbara AmongKakira Sugar Works has almost doubled output from 90,000 metric tones annually to 150,000 following an increase in procurement of cane from out growers.
The number of outgrowers rose from 3,000 to over 6,000 farmers, which in turn increased the acreage under sugarcane cultivation from 10,000ha to 17,500ha.
The development was announced yesterday when President Yoweri Museveni commissioned the factory extension and the company’s private electricity plant.
Madhvani Group Set for Biofuels

THE Madhvani Group of Companies has finalised plans to start a Jatropha (locally known as Birowa plant) project in Busoga.
The Managing Director, Mr Mayur Madhvani told Members of Parliament from Busoga sub-region that they have been making studies about the plant and tests have been made and confirmed that the oil from the plant could be used to save on fuel consumption.

East African Development Bank Gives KSW US$8.5 Million Loans
Monday, August 9, 2004, New Vision Business by KSWThe funds will be used to facilitate KSW’s power co-generation expansion.
EADB’s director general, Godfrey Tumusiime, KSW’s chairman Dr. Jack Luyombya and director James Kahoza signed the agreement on Friday at the bank’s head office in Kampala.
Dr. Luyombya said the loans would augment Kakira’s co-generation facilities and help it acquire new power generation equipment and distribution lines to interconnect to the national grid.
